Naming Tradition?

Assalaamu'alaikum readers and writers! Back with me, Aas Mutiara Aningrum☺

Before reading my writing, please read the article below! To increase our knowledge (hihi). Because my writing now talks about facts, while the previous writings talk about fantasy. Happy reading!

Have you read it? Do you get points from the article above? Of course..
One of the points I got from the above article is : In Korea, if a korean woman is married, she can't be called by using her husband's name. Whereas in Japan, if a japanese woman is married, she is called using her husband's name. And there are still many points we got from the above article. You can add it in the comment column.😊 Ok, now we have got new knowledge from the article above.

As I said before, I'll talk about facts like the article above. I'll tell you about my experience, maybe you also experienced it.

Since I was a child I felt surprised, strange and confused. Why should I call my cousin who is older than me as "De"? For example, "De Ikhsan". And why I'm younger than my cousin, I was called “Teteh”—“Teh Mutia". "Teteh" is the name of an older sister in West Java. "De" is a call to someone younger. Even I was called "Bibi" by my older relatives. Or I have to call "Aa" to my cousin who is clearly younger than me. "Bibi" is an aunt. And "Aa" is a call to older brothers.

And what I'm most confused about that, I have to salim (kiss hands) with my cousin whom I called "Aa" as a respect. On the contrary, my hand was kissed by my cousin whom I called "De" as respect for me.

Confused guys? But if you experience traditions like me, you will understand what I mean.πŸ˜…

It all happened because of the large family structure. I have a mother, and my mother has an older sister. They both have children. But my mother gave birth to me first. Then an older sister of my mother gave birth to a child— who will become my cousin. Even though I'm older than my cousin, I still have to call her/him as "Teteh / Aa" because they are the children of my mother's older sister. And my cousin calls me "De" because I'm a child of their mother's younger sister.
